How To Use Liquid Mineral Foundation For A “No Makeup” Makeup Look

The right kind of liquid mineral foundation is key to achieving a flawless look.

Traditional foundations usually feel heavy and look quite obvious. Liquid mineral foundations, on the other hand, are lightweight and look like skin—that’s why they’re mostly preferred when creating a natural makeup look.

But, the right technique and application still need to be done so you can maximize their effect. In this post, we’ll talk about ways how to apply it: whether you have oily, dry, or mature skin.

We’ll share our favorite liquid mineral foundation brands, too, in case you’re just starting out with mineral makeup.

Choose the Right Liquid Mineral Foundation Tool

First, you have to know the kind of coverage you need. After all, the perfect natural makeup look doesn’t always mean sheer coverage.

You can still achieve a “no makeup” makeup look even with obvious skin flaws like dark spots or acne scars. You just have to know which kind of applicator works best for your needs.

Here’s a quick applicator guide you’ll find handy:

  • Makeup sponge – lets you build-up coverage, great for reaching large pores or covering deep-pitted acne scars.
  • Flat foundation brush – spreads the foundation evenly, gives sheer to medium coverage.
  • Stippling brush – provides sheer coverage with an airbrushed finish.
  • Dense buffing brush – offers full coverage and an airbrushed finish.

Apply Liquid Mineral Foundation to a Moisturized Face

A moisturized face allows your foundation to blend seamlessly. Moisturizers also help improve your skin’s overall condition if you add them to your daily morning skincare routine.

Just make sure to pick a moisturizer based on your skin type. Furthermore, makeup can only do so much, so having healthy skin can make working with liquid mineral foundation easier.

Use a Primer So Your Liquid Mineral Foundation Stays Longer

Some liquid mineral foundations are formulated to last the whole day. However, some are made to give a dewy or satiny finish, so they can only last for up to four hours.

This is where primers come in. Apply a thin layer before putting on your makeup to make it look fresh and last all day.

Take It Easy with How Much Liquid Mineral Foundation You Use

Piling a lot of layers of foundation won’t help if you want to achieve a natural coverage. When it comes to this makeup look, remember that less is more.

Start by pumping a small amount of liquid mineral foundation at the back of your hand.

Liquid mineral foundations tend to melt easily hours after application when too much is applied. So, as you can see, using less benefits you in the long run.

Add Layers of Liquid Mineral Foundation Gradually

If you need to hide some of your skin flaws, gradually add more layers only to areas that need more coverage. Use light, patting motions when putting a new layer so the foundation under it won’t move.

Set the Liquid Mineral Foundation with Mineral Powder

Doing this helps your makeup stay intact.

A good mineral powder controls oil and keeps your foundation from melting. Make sure to dust a small amount all over your face and avoid using too much so your face won’t look cakey.

We also suggest concentrating more on the apples of your cheeks and down the center of your nose so your skin still looks like actual skin.

Liquid Mineral Foundation: Our Current Favorites

Mineral foundation is for you if you still want to look like yourself, but better. If you have dry skin, we highly recommend using liquid foundations to help hydrate the skin.

Liquid Mineral Foundation # 1: jane iredale Liquid Minerals A Foundation

What we like about this foundation is it’s very lightweight and deeply hydrating. It also reduces the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, and the appearance of pores as well.

It comes in a pump bottle which makes it hygienic and travel-friendly, too!

However, we dislike that it has no added SPF. It’s a big deal breaker knowing this product’s a bit pricey.

Liquid Mineral Foundation # 2: bareMinerals bareSkin Pure Brightening Serum Foundation SPF 20

What’s nice about this foundation is it has Vitamin C to help skin look more even with continued use. This lightweight and long-wearing formula is packed with gentle ingredients to leave skin looking luminous and fresh.

Another plus is it has SPF. But, it doesn’t do a lot to hide skin imperfections so you may want to skip on this if you’re looking for more coverage.

Liquid Mineral Foundation # 3: MAC Cosmetics Mineralize Moisture SPF 15 Foundation

This foundation works by instantly refreshing and hydrating the skin. It provides medium to full coverage, too, and it’ll also work well if you have dry, acne-prone skin.

It has a velvety, satin finish and comes with a wide range of shades to suit all skin tones and undertones. However, it’s not suitable for humid days.
